PROPOSAL TITLE

Optimizing the diagnostic value in SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging

PROPOSAL ACRONYM

General Objective of the Project

The goal of the project is to study the different combinations of Left Ventricular (LV) function and myocardial perfusion abnormalities using nuclear medicine procedures and a dynamic cardiac phantom. The general objective is to optimize of diagnostic value for the early detection of mild coronary artery disease in the framework of improving the public and private health services.

Specific Scientific and Technological Objectives of the Project

(a) Construction of a specific dynamic cardiac phantom (not available in the market in the desired form),

(b) Use the phantom to experimentally simulate CAD (myocardial perfusion defects) and different stages of Left ventricular dysfunction,

(c) Image acquisition and processing of phantom simulated cardiac normal and abnormal conditions,

(d) Development of a specific software package for the storage, handling and analysis of the diagnostic evaluation of the acquired images (not available in the market in the desired form),

(e) Determination of best imaging procedure resulting in the best diagnostic value considering the dose to the patient as a constraint.
